Sui Wen-ti 隋文帝	K'ai-huang 1 開皇 元年	581	Sui Wen-ti, Yang Chien, overthrows the Chou. He changes the office names, patterned on those of the Han-Wei period.
	K'ai-huang 2 開皇 二年	582	The Latter Ch'en ruler ascends the throne in Chiang-nan.
	K'ai-huang 3 開皇 三年	583	The Sui move to a new capital near Ch'ang-an, a major victory against the Turks, and Su Wei issues a new legal code.
	K'ai-huang 4 開皇 四年	584	The Latter Liang ruler enters the Sui court, the Sui and the Turks repair relations.
	K'ai-huang 5 開皇 五年	585	Shuo-fang is patrolled, a Great Wall of stone is constructed, the Five Rites (wu li) are promulgated.
	K'ai-huang 6 開皇 六年	586	Shuo-fang is again patrolled, led by Wei Ch'ih-chiung (尉 遲迥) the Hsiang-chou Tzu-shih (相州 刺史).
	K'ai-huang 7 開皇 七年	587	100,000 are dispatched to build the Great Wall. The Latter Liang falls. The Turkish Khan Sha-po-lüeh (沙鉢略) dies.
	K'ai-huang 8 開皇 八年	588	A major military operation is mounted against Ch'en.
	K'ai-huang 9 開皇 九年	589	The Sui eliminate Ch'en and reunify China. Several commanderies (chun) in Ling-nan
